Important Upcoming Dates - Notice of Tax Increase

Tonight at the City Budget Workshop meeting, City Council decided to move forward with a 5 cent property tax increase. In the Agenda packet, a "Notice of Public Hearing on Tax Increase" and "Notice of Tax Revenue Increase" one sheet were prepared.

There will be two public hearings on this proposal. The first hearing will be...

'to receive public comment concerning the Proposed 2009-2010 Municipal Budget. This budget will raise more total property taxes than last year's budget by $2,210,126 or 7.13 percent, and of that amount $505,723 is tax revenue to be raised from new property added to the tax roll this year.'

8/7/09: Publication of Effective/Rollback Tax Rates, Schedules, and Fund Balances

8/11/09: Vote to Propose Tax Rate and Certification of Anticipated Collection Rate/Excess Collections

8/14/09: "NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING ON TAX INCREASE" (1st Quarter-Page Notice) at least Seven (7) days before the public hearing.

8/21/09: Post 72-hour notice for public hearing

8/25/09: FIRST PUBLIC HEARING - announce second Public hearing (at least 3 days after)

730PM at Town Center, 255 Parkway Blvd, Coppell, TX 75019

8/28/09: Post 72-hour notice for public hearing

9/1/09: SECOND PUBLIC HEARING - Must announce meeting to adopt the Tax Rate (3 to 14 days from this date)

9/4/09: "NOTICE OF VOTE ON TAX RATE" (2nd Quarter-Page Notice) Publish before meeting to adopt the Tax Rate. (no day rule).

9/4/09: Post 72-hour notice for meeting to adopt tax rate

9/8/09: Meeting to adopt Tax Rate. (3 to 14 days after the public hearing).

City Council's Budget Workshop Meeting is tonight

Be there tonight to hear City Council's plans. There are discussions that the City Council believes raising Property Taxes is a good thing right now. We need to understand the reasons why.
